My email to Nussle and Culver
Dear Senator Nussle,
My name is Mark Bulechek I am the President and Founder of the TrailHogs Jeep club here in Solon Iowa. We have a membership base from all over the state of Iowa. I am writing to ask what your position is on the sport of off-roading. Recently the state of Iowa’s DNR took over our only public off-road area and turned it into a OHV park. One would think OHV or Off Highway Vehicle would include full size 4x4s but it does not. A few years ago we lobbied with the support of the Iowa Association of 4x4 clubs, to change the states wording of what a OHV is, this was brought to the Iowa Senate in SF-300, SF-300 also included a fee based program similar to the one used by the ATVs. The bill passed the Senate 50-0 then when it went to the house, the DNR got it hung up in committee and it never made it out for a vote. Now that we have no place to enjoy our sport in the state we are forced to take our vehicles out of state, thus spending our hard earned money out of state and not generating any tax dollars for the state of Iowa.
You can ask any of the business owners in the town of Ely Iowa how the park take over has effected their business and I bet you will get the same answer from most of them. “weekends have been slow since you guys don’t come around anymore” This was a quote from an employee at Hollywood Pizza in Ely.
“Haven’t had a Jeep to work on, you guys not breaking down any more?” A quote from the owner of Sweet Auto Repair in Ely.
Well I do hope you will put some thought to this issue, as I know our group will be when they vote. Feel free to contact me via email at [email protected] or via phone at 319-530-1266
If you ever feel the need to witness our sport first hand there is a small private area near Des Moines the owner charges an exorbitant fee, but I would be happy to arrange a tour with a group of our sports enthusiasts.
Thank You,
Mark Bulechek

Re: My email to Nussle and Culver
Good luck Mark, I really wish there was a way to get an accurate count of the amount of displaced trucks/jeeps that have NOWHERE to wheel anymore. That would be a good number to toss out. Dear State, here is the number of trucks you are forcing to exit the state to be driven, or encouraging illegal 4wheeling and trespassing by not supplying public land for recreational use.

Re: My email to Nussle and Culver
Well after a few un-returned phone calls and not getting a response to my email I feel that its time to do it again. EVERYONE needs to send a email to each of the candidates, we need to get their attention ASAP. like we did with the house and senate members. Both of the candidates are for the BIG and not us little guys, so we need to look BIG!
Feel free to cut and paste my email, change the name and title of course. It is posted below.
Thanks,
Mark Bulechek

Re: My email to Nussle and Culver
I've printed and mailed a letter to each, along with my state legislators.
I found a link that tells you who your legislators (both state and fed )

Re: My email to Nussle and Culver
This is getting off topic, but, Jeepless raised a fair question: How many full size go out of state?
Someone at the Iowa Association called one of the 4 wheel magazines. They have something like 4500 paid subscribers in Iowa.
That is one way to measure the potential unmet demand for an off road park.
